Christ Episcopal Church celebrates the recognition of parishioner Mary Cole as Smithfield’s 2019 Citizen of the Year!

This well-deserved recognition reflects Mary’s dedication and hard work on behalf of Smithfield Rotary and Ruritan clubs, Smithfield’s Sundays at Four concert venue, and fundraising efforts in support of CEC’s ‘Preserving a Smithfield Treasure’ campaign. This campaign supports the preservation of CEC’s unique collection of stained-glass windows, including works by renown stained-glass art studios Tiffany, J&R Lamb, and Wippell, as well as the original 1832 facility in which these treasures stand.

This current recognition is not the first time Smithfield has recognized Mary’s outstanding contributions. In 2015, the Isle of Wight-Smithfield-Windsor Chamber of Commerce awarded her the Grace Keen Distinguished Community Service award.
